Chimi's on Cherry Street

One of my favorite Mexican food spots is Chimi's. We typically hit the one on Cherry Street in Tulsa since the one in Owasso closed a few years ago. They also have a location about 51st & Harvard. We actually ended up doing lunch there two days in a row recently but I was not complaining one bit.

I love their chips and salsa. They bring out two kinds of salsa, one that is mild and chunky and a slightly spicier thin version. Bowls are on the table for you to mix up your own combination. I usually have to ask the guy to bring another round because I go through so much of it. Really good and fresh and usually lots of cilantro.

My favorite menu item is the Tacos Monterey. Two rolled tacos, one beef and one chicken, that have been fried and then covered with a mild red ranchero sauce over the beef and warm queso over the chicken. It comes with rice, beans, and sour cream. The plate is usually super hot so watch it. I love the crispiness of the tortillas and the great flavors added by the sauces which also help to soften them up a bit. I'm also a big fan of their rice which is plump and yellow with a nice chickeny flavor and is great with these sauces as well.

They have your usual range of Mexican food menu items like enchiladas, burritos and tacos. They also offer some good deals at lunch including a good sized taco salad that you can have with spicy ground beef or chicken and lots of toppings like olives, guacamole, cheese, tomatoes, onions, and sour cream. Really tasty in a crisp fried tortilla bowl.

The guys that bring the chips and salsa are long time employees and are always attentive and friendly and ready to bring out refills. For good taste of tex-mex, I recommend that you give Chimi's a try. Muy bueno!
