Our friends, Vance and Ken, came up from Dallas this weekend and we love to have brunch before they head back on Sundays so we gave Copeland's on west Kenosha (71st for theTulsa conversion) in Broken Arrow a try. Judy and I have been there for lunch a couple of times and dinner and we have been anxious to give brunch a try and it was a HUGE hit. Copeland's is a small chain that is new to our area and specializes in the food of New Orleans. With their huge portions, extensive menu, flavorful dishes and great prices they have a lot to love.
They offer a variety of omelets or you can select your own ingredients and I decided to try one with shrimp, Monterrey jack and bacon. It was cooked perfectly and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I had it with the cheesy grits which were a really nice compliment to the shrimp. I also had the chance to try some of Vance's Crabcake Benedict and oh man was it good. The combination of the very moist and meaty crab cake with perfectly poached egg and creamy Hollandaise was just killer. It smelled delicious before it even hit my mouth and I knew I was in for a treat. Just a hint of spiciness from the crab cake and the mellowness of the egg were a great blend but the added flavor of the Hollandaise really knocked it out of the park. I was so glad that Vance decided to be nice and share. And the warm biscuits served with our meals are really wonderful. Nice and flaky but not too dense with a good buttery flavor.
But the big standout from our brunch was the Original Brioche French Toast. With a crispy crust and buttery middle it was like having dessert for breakfast! I'm not usually a big fan of french toast but I was stealing part of the leftovers when Ken finally gave up on it. It was a really delicious treat all by its self.
It was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday morning with friends, especially Vance. The ambiance is really terrific and made it easy for us to talk around the table. A small band set-up to play and they kept it at a perfect volume to be able to still allow conversation but to add to the relaxing atmosphere of the location. I would highly recommend you check out the Sunday Brunch at Copeland's. I think you find plenty of variety and get a really delicious meal while keeping your Sunday morning mellow. And check them out for lunch or dinner, you are going to enjoy that meal too!
(Did I mention your name enough, Vance?????)
