Checked out D'Novo for lunch yesterday. I'm not sure when it opened, but it was pretty recently. It's a different approach to lean dining and had a great menu and atmosphere. The only complaint I have is in the queuing/ordering process. I think it really detracts from their overall ambiance to have you order at the counter like McDonald's and they really have not figured out how to handle the line that comes through the front door. I'm going to chalk a lot of this up to being new, but if they continue with the order at the counter service I think they are doing a disservice to the environment they have created. And the environment is really beautiful. It is a fantastic setting for the "ladies that lunch" and to bring clients. We enjoyed sitting on the patio and enjoying the weather. Lots of options with tables and booths inside too.
The menu was great. To understand the concept they are working from, check out their website. Unfortunately they have not yet posted their lunch and dinner menus on-line but you can get a feel for the concept and menus by perusing through the "Delivered" side of the site. All of the restaurant menu items are under 500 calories and definitely earn the "gourmet" designation. The menu does a great job of listing the ingredients and they all look very appetizing. They are interesting and well-thought out flavor combinations and have lots of visual appeal when you see them being served.
I had a really delicious salad of crisp greens, apples, walnuts and goat cheese with a fabulous poppy-seed dressing. The dressing was really out of this world. It was light but creamy and had a nice rounded flavor to it. It was a great balance to the greens and walnuts. My only let down was the small amount of goat cheese. This is the point where you have to start remembering that the concept here is "lean gourmet"! I did get the great flavor of goat cheese but not the excess that you get used to at other restaurants. So you really have to start shifting your thinking a bit when you go to D'Novo. It's not a bad thing but one you need to be prepared for if "lean" isn't already part of your dining style.
I also had a very flavorful flatbread with cilantro pesto, queso fresco, avocado and rock shrimp. There was a really nice spiciness to the shrimp and the pesto was very nutty and aromatic. My friend had the turkey club panini that was wrapped with a tortilla and served with a slightly spicy roasted pepper sauce. Both were very fresh, well presented and were nice size portions. We both wondered that at 500 calories would we be leaving hungry, but we truly didn't and were pleased with the meal. Just the right serving for lunch and the prices are well within reason for this style of food. I'm anxious to try out a few more items on the menu like the Chilled Salmon Ceasar and the Achiote Marinated Tilapia. They also had a nice dessert list with a Two Chocolate Flourless Cake that looked really yummy.
I would certainly recommend you give D'Novo's a try. Just remember to adjust your expectations on some of the ingredients from the portions you typically see in other restaurants. I think you'll find this take on lean gourmet will fill you up and please your palate while keeping an eye on your waistline.

Rhonda and Sandy checked out D'Novo - we'd highly recommend getting a dessert + a lunch. I had the Rock Shrimp Flatbread and Rhonda had the Spinach Roasted Red Pepper and Goat Cheese Flat Bread. They were tasty.
But the best part about dining lean is that it affords a "guilt free" dessert! Rhonda had the Red wine poached pear in ginger sauce with Lubneh yogurt cheese in a walnut thule. Sandy had the Lemon pound cake with macarated berries in grand marinier. The desserts are highly recommended! Everything was delicious, light and guilt free!
The decor was beautiful and very custom looking. We'll definitely go back - we're interested in trying the dinner menu sometime soon.
