It's Diner Wednesday and this time we hit Cafe 51 off of Highway 169 on 51st Street in Tulsa. It was nice open restaurant with a lot of sunlight coming in. It was clean but I would say just a little worn and dingy over time. The service was friendly and attentive.
Cafe 51 has a daily lunch buffet with a half dozen entrees and vegetables as well as some salad items. We chose the buffet and each had something different. I stuck with the meatloaf and goulash with mashed potatoes and a hot roll. All were really good. Meatloaf is always one of those things you never know what you are going to get but this one was certainly to my liking. It was dense but not too heavy and had good onion and tomato flavor and not a hint of grease. The goulash was also very good with a another good tomato flavor but with an Italian note to it. This was just a bit greasy but you really only saw that on the plate and it did not effect the flavor. The mashed potatoes were homemade and very good with just a bit of skin. Cream gravy was offered at the table to go with it. Brad tried the pork loin and thought it had really good flavor, a bit tough but worth a little extra chewing for the flavor. Judy had the fajita chicken and there wasn't a bit of it left on her plate. It had a really great aroma with a nice mix of peppers, onion and tomato. The buffet is all you can eat, but we were all very full after just one trip.
Once again we really enjoyed our latest diner adventure and I would certainly recommend you check out Cafe 51. The buffet was a great value especially with the variety of choices. Their lunch menu also had lots of good hamburger and sandwich choices as well the standards like chicken fried steak and chicken strips. I also found on their website that they offer a breakfast buffet so that should be one to check out too. Hope you are enjoying Diner Wednesday as much as we are and that you are trying some of these great local spots, too.
