I have a couple of buddies at work that we usually do lunch together and we recently started
"Diner Wednesdays". We had come across an article in the Tulsa World Spot about Kim's Diner on 41st street and decided we should check it out. We were actually on a hunt for fried chicken and struck out at Kim's but still enjoyed a great lunch. As we were leaving we decided it would be a fun idea to check out more diners around town and so we pick something new every Wednesday. So far we have made it to Tally's on 11th Street, Western Country off of 21st & Sheridan and Bishop's Family Restaurant off 41st.
Turns out Bishop's is actually a cafeteria style buffet but we did finally find good fried chicken. All have been great places to get good diner food. Clean restaurants and friendly wait staff along with an expected menu of home-cooking foods has fit our bill for diners.
This week we hit on something unexpected, The Blue Dome Diner at 311 S.
2nd Street. It was definitely an eclectic take on your regular diner fare and we thought it was fantastic. With a real nod to much healthier diner food we enjoyed a turkey burger and a black bean burger as well as a tasty club sandwich. The Blue Dome had a wide range of side dishes including a nice fruit bowl and some very tasty-looking (and smelling!) home fries. The sandwich bread was freshly baked on site and was delicious.
So, if you like the diner experience but looking for a lighter version, I recommend you check out The Blue Dome diner.

Awesome, I'm one of the "couple of buddies". Western Country Diner has turkey and dressing on Wednesday and Sunday...excellent.
